Transmission Problems HELP?

Help, thoughts. 77 300D, transmission ok yesterday, this morning no reverse, drove it about 15 miles, it would back up a hill with no problem, pulled in garage, waited a while, no reverse. Fluid is red, not burned, any thoughts, shifts fine in fwd motion.

The 722.1xx transmission that you have has an adjustable reverse band that may be slipping. Perhaps it is just starting to slip and when the tranny heats up, the parts expand and it works OK. When it is cold there's more slop and it slips.

The 77 240D auto that I bought for peanuts had no reverse. After I handed over the money , I reached down on the passenger's side of the tranny case , hand tightened the band adjuster that had somehow backed out and fixed it. I think it's a stud with a lock nut closest to the front on the passenger's side of the case. Check that out.
