When I first bought the 85 300SD the speedo was working well. One day after the car sat for about a week, the speedometer started acting erratically. At low speeds the needle is bouncing everywhere. After it shifts into 2nd, the speedometer in pinned at 200 km/h. When parked the speedometer is at zero but when it shifts into gear the needle will pop up briefly before going back to zero.

Yesterday I removed my cluster, since then, the speedo has not been bouncing around as much but it is stilled pinned at 200km/h in 2nd.

My odometer and tach are working.

Before I send my speedo of to get fixed, is there any way to confirm that is is the speedo and not the sensor that is not working.

Also, any suggestions on where to send the speedo. I was thinking of sending it here (www.benz-store.com) but I am open to suggestions.

I would verify that a good ground is present on the cluster.
that and make sure the wires from the tranny are not frayed.
