door panel out, now what ? '82 240D man. 4spd
i was trying to replace the outside window seal. the one that is attached to the stainless outside trim right at the window edge. some had suggested to take the door panel out. but after the panel is removed, i had realized that i didn't need to.
now that i have the door panel out (which was quite easy to remove), what should i do for preventative rust treatment of the inside bottow edge or should i leave it alone ? is it an overkill to clean the bottom of the door out, treat with POR15 and spray the 3M rubberize at the door edge to seal. But not to seal the drain holes. my intention is to keep the water that comes down the window out of the crevices and drain out of the door so it won't rust. the second question is, look at my locking mechanism. the one i'm holding is from the PO which he left in the trunk. they look different. is one newer ? it looks like the one in the door is newer but i can't really tell. i'm trying to figure out if he ordered new ones but didn't install yet ?

I think your plan is overkill. Replacing window seal should keep out any water. I wouldn't do anything. Can't help with the lock, if it works, I'd button it back up.
