Welcome aboard! I know she will not disappoint...

It is great to hear good things about the '79 SDs.

I just bought a nice red one pictured below. The interior is in great condition & white leather....

I got this one because 2 weeks ago I got my first SD, pic below; A yellow '81 SD. If the '79 rides anything like the '82 I will be a pretty happy camper.

Anyone know some of the differences? I bought them both sight unseen from reliable people. ( the 82 did not dissapoint.) It came from Oregon and belonged to the POs dad for 11 yrs as his work car- he is a mechanic.

I still have to pick up the '79SD in Austin, TX.......
tell us more of the story...was this an ebay deal or did you have a connection?

I don't think I have ever seen one in signalrot ( is that what it is?) Mine is Golden Brown (for now- but the color is growing on me).

You are going to have to get yourself a full euro lashup- I know there are plenty of upullits down your way that have lights and bumpers from time to time.

Tell us more

Rick

Where is the best place to look for a used 300SD? I am so afraid of ebay. Is there a trick here? Very hard to find! I am in Miami, Florida.

RS- I found this red SD right here on the CARS section from a guy named Jason who runs a BioD cooperative in TX. I don't know what signalrot is at all. Is that a color??? I thought abou the Euro look for 1 sec but I think when this is cleaned up right it will be best to keep it as is.

Here are some pic's. It got here at dusk so this is the best I could do for lighting. I think it will clean up pretty nice after a couple of hours with the hi speed buffer & a bunch of Maguires Paint Cleaner & Paint Polish.
Yes it needs a little bodywork. rear bumper- rear pass door & trim.....
I drove it around the block a few times and it does sound real nice. Very lo miles. AA

Aside from cosmetics, it has an electrical issue. I drove it & the battry ligth stayed on.
Then after shutting it off, it was dead. No cranking at all.

Any ideas?

There is a leak by the oil pan , but it came with a new pan & gasket kit.

Sunroof needs attention. (new motor? switch? We'll see.)

I haven't driven a car with no passenger sideview mirror since maybe my '64 Comet.....?????

Way cool !

it looks like a good honest car. the ivory seats are rare and sharp looking.

i would try changing the regulator and points.

good luck.

As tomw suggests, the voltage regulator may be shot (on the back of the alternator). It's worth trying to clean up the battery terminals first. Look under the battery tray (toward the front- I think I see some corrosion from acid)

Does your car have a rack damper bolt on the IP? Mine doesn't and its the only OM617 that I know of that doesn't have one.

Very pretty clean looking engine ( no EGR)- I like that!

I love the old Becker. I have one I may put in as well- I only listen to NPR anyway so I won't be missing much fidelity...

It will be interesting to hear you compare and contrast the W116 and W126....

Pretty car. I'm really starting to like the red, even if it is a cop magnet around here.

Signalrot = Signal Red

That model possesses the evil ACC servo. You will be assimilated.
