W124 diesel in police-chase video?

My daughter's boyfriend was telling me last night about a police chase he recently saw on TV/Spike, anyone know what he's talking about or have a link?

Sounds like it was an eventful chase with repeated PIT attempts and spike-strips, sounds amusing in a twisted kind of way.

YEAH! If it was a diesel, why couldn't they just run up to it and grab it?

I saw a video of a W126 on a run. It rammed through a line of cop cars and kept on going, twice!

'Cause it was a 124 diesel, that's why. I guess a 240D or 123 body would have been easy to catch.

The story I'm told is that the pursuit cars had a difficult time keeping up, I'd like to see it.

Crown Vics aren't terribly fast ( i think mostcop cars have a different intake, that's it) especially with the extra weight that's a part of the Cop-spec CrownVic.

But they are much faster than any 124 diesel.

my bro is a po-po and he said there is nothing special about the cars they have. you can go buy the exact one from a dealer, you just have to buy the Crown Vic interceptor model.

The main difference is the shielding around the exploding gas tank area. We have had quite a few around our area kill officers over the last few years. The officers unions are all over it. Finally, one being productive.....
Now I am seeing more and more Impala's and a really sharp looking Chrysler product. Crown Vic's are being phased out.

Seeing that over here too, I almost got busted because I didn't recognize the new car their using and sped up to it.. Put in the brake right before I passed it and turned off into some small road.. (was going 70 in a 35)

Elwood: It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?

Not a lot of differences, the guys at Ford's Special Vehicles division have given me the tour. Mostly electrical, then there's the aluminum intake manifold (the crossover pipe in the plastic one can't handle the pressures), silicone hoses, and the same engine as the "handling package" (extra 15hp/dual exhaust and shorter rear screw) with additional cooling and stiffer shocks/swaybars.

Ford being my biggest customer, I usually bought Grand Marquis for road cars, at 1500miles/week I can pretty well sum them up: strong but not fast.

My 603 powered 124s will give it a run for its money, it'd be hard to get ahead of a well-driven '87 300D with a Crown Vic.

Top speed around 130, i think that's faster than a 603 can do. And would get to its top speed a lot quicker than a 603 would.

I bet the MB is more aerodynamic though.

You just have to be going fast enough so they can't catch you...140mph should do it...

New Police Interceptors are not for sale to the public

No, not exactly true. Only Government agencies are allowed to purchase the P71 Police Interceptors. An agreement to that effect with Ford Motor Company to that effect is in force.

Occasionally, a new Police Intereptor arrives with minor body damage, and the Police or Government agency refuses to accept it. In those cases, they are repaired, and then made available for Ford dealers nationwide to bid on them, and then they sell them as used cars, even though they are essentially new. Such cars are occasionally seen on ebay.

Discussed at length here: www.crownvic.net
