I just purchased our 2nd MB ('85 300TD Wagon). I've been bugging this guy to sell it to me for years. I finally purchased it but it is extremely slow, especially when cold. Once up to speed and warm it cruises with the best of them. The owner's theory is that the emissions testing (adjusting) done when the car was brought over messed it up. He has never been able to figure it out. So he just lived with it for 200k miles. The car is mint but I'm hoping to gather some ideas from you guys to speed it up a bit. My '84 300D-T is a rocket compared to this one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does this car have the trap oxidizer? One way to tell, is if the turbocharger is visible right when you open the hood.

Thanks Speedy...
I'll look at that first. If so, do you suspect that this might impact performance?

Any other ideas?
No Trap Oxidizer on the car. Did some more searching through various threads. Will attempt all the basic things that I've read so far. Do you have any other ideas?

I'm guessing you have the 617.95x engine in this car. If so, there are a number of basic things you can do to bring her back to life:
* Remove play from throttle linkage * Disable EGR * Clean out hollow bolt/banjo fitting at the rear of the intake manifold. Do the same for the switchover valve * Valve adjustment * Lubro Moly Diesel Purge * Adjust wastegate settings, but only after measuring current boost pressures * Tune the ALDA fuel/air settings. Be especially cautious here; about 1 in 10 adjustment springs break without warning. Often, the factory settings for the wastegate and the ALDA are on the conservative side, and if properly adjusted, can yield surprisingly more horsepower. If you need details for any of the above suggestions, a simple search here at MercedesShop will get you started. Additionally, Easley and Ritter's MB page has the step by step directions for the wastegate adjustment. Good luck, mww

Great suggestions
Thanks for the advice. That will obviously keep me busy for awhile. Appreciate it. Will work down the checklist.
