The cars dead... trunk is completely smashed on the right side and is sticking out the left.... I'm already broke....... Where can I find a good W126 diesel body with dead engine/tranny? I think i'm gonna be sick...

What horrible luck... I'm sorry for your misfortune.
Apparently you escaped physical injury?

I'm sure there are some good bodies out there, but they aren't too easy to find. This is a great place to start your search though...

You might call around to the local shops. They may know of someone sitting on one that doesn't want to fix the drive train...

My 400E is still available at 3500. It needs motor mounts and has some sort of PS leak that I think is at the reservoir. If I fix these items before it sells I will raise the price accordingly...

You got hit be someone? Did the other driver have insurance? If so, you should get a settlement from them. If not, your insurance most likely will have a under/uninsured rider attached. Did the cops show up? Was there an accident report filed?

It looks like accidents take these beasts out of commision more than wear and tear. I'd pull the engine and trans and start searching craigslist for your next rig. I'm seeing lots of these cars being given up because the auto trans has failed.

Check this 1983 out

I just saw this 1983 300SD for sale in the cars section. FS: 1983 w126, well maintained, recently recond.

He wants $2100 for the car which seems to be in great shape.
If you pull your engine and trans from the 1981, you could get over $1000 for them easily.

You can also sell lots of the other parts on the 1981...

Hope this helps

Atlanta

There's one in Atlanta Craigslist. Seems to me a week ago or so, the guy said it had a new engine, needed a tranny.

Good luck,

Jeff

It was ruled as my fault so no insurance... I was making a left, the light was yellow, the other guy was slowing down, so I went...then he must have thought he could make the yellow, didn't see me, and gunned it...right into my back side..

I really loved this car.. For the new one, I'd like to have as similar of a body as possible, so a 300SD with dead engine/tranny would be best, same color and year would be nice, but I can always get it painted some day and you can't tell years by looking... Going to swap over as much as possible. I'm trying to convince myself that I'm replacing a part and not the car......

The car body is just a shell. The engine is the soul.

I'm sorry to hear of this unfortunate circumstance. Hope all works out well.

How is that your fault? AFAIK if you get hit in the rear it's the other guys fault.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Maybe you can appeal?
Also the light was green

The frame is definitely bent.. no way to fix for any reasonable cost...

Found the craigslist one over here, I have someone who probably can loan me $1k to get it, interest free..

I will be taking her for one last long trip to florida, then storing her in our huge back yard for ever, hopefully to be restored some day..

Hopefully your insurance company will make the other guy whole.

We had to resort to our own collision insurance when the '83 got hit by a teenager, because their offer was laughably low. Our insurance paid out 3x what they offered, which they eventually got from the other company. Without our own collision policy, we would have been screwed even worse.

The other guy was in a SUV... All he needs is a few scratches out of his bumper and a new grill! $200 max...

$200 won't buy you much at the auto-body shop. With the damage to your car, it's almost certain that there is hidden damage to the SUV.

If you turn in front of somebody and get hit, it is your fault. He didn't get run into from behind.
Sorry to hear about this. It doesn't look just terrible. The SD for sale in the car section mentioned above sounds like the guy has done a lot of work to it. But it may be twice your budget. Worth it in the long run perhaps. The only red flag is that he didn't register it yet, which always sounds to me like a buy to sell scenario. Nothing wrong with that I guess.....
