Anyone know who to figure out the production date of a MB diesel engine?

I have three 617 engines, one that is original to the 84 300D I bought recently and the other two previously belonging to 300SD's. I wondering if there is some way to figure what year cars they came out of by the serial numbers.
I've done a search of our forum and the WWW as well with out any success.
Anyone have an idea?
