Advice needed

Spoke to a guy about a potential Mercedes 240D for sale. He says it's a 1973 model with an auto transmission and it has run in the last several months but won't start now. Says it has low fuel pressure. Says it's green. I haven't seen the car. Mileage is undetermined; asking price is $600.
Questions are: Is it indeed a '73 model? I have very little knowledge of these but didn't know they had automatics those years. What is the low fuel pressure of which he speaks? Could it be as simple as a plugged filter or is it probably an IP? What are the strong/weak points on these cars?
I'm open to any suggestions or comments. I'm not terribly interested in the car but would like a Diesel and it may be a decent deal. I'm also aware of the potential cost of a "cheap" Mercedes so no delusions here.
Thanks in advance. I really appreciate the help I've gotten on this forum.
Chuck.
