300d engine swapped...

Hi Everyone,
I just finished swapping an '85 engine&tranny into an '83 (both 300d).
It looks like she's going to be ok, a few quirks remain...
When I turn the key all the way after the glow plugs heat up, nothing happens.
I can only start her by jumping the 2 starter connectors in that little box in front of the battery... The ignition worked fine before the swap, so its clearly an electrical snafu, I just don't know where to look...any guidance would be most appreciated!
THanks,
Greenjed

Hummm..You do have the "small" wire hooked up to the starter solenoid?

Did you check to make sure the switch that detects if the transmission is in park is properly connected? The neutral safety switch.

Here's what you do if it's so cold your diesel fuel gels. Smear some on some toast and stay inside until it warms up outside.

Yep I think it's the neutral safety switch but I'm not sure why it's not working...a small obstacle relatively speaking, I'll just bypass it if need be... thanks for the help!

I swapped out the switch (it had actually broken off), she fired right up.
Thanks again,
Greenjed

Gotta love it. It is always a good feeling to hear an engine fire up for the first time after a rebuild or replacement as the case may be.
