Question 85 300sd buzz noise

I posted this once before, But dont know where to look anymore ! when the car is running, approx 1000 to 12000 rpm there is a buzzing noise coming from the shifter ! It dose not matter if the shifter is in p or d or if I am moving or stopped, I replaced motor mounts & shocks , tranny mount rubber looks good, I dont know where to look any more, the car runs fine and shifts fine ,but that buzz makes me crazy ! also I noticed that when the car is in park, the drive shaft just moves slighty! Is this normal ? thanks J

Did you check the bushings on both ends of the shifter rod that connects the shifter to the trans...if worn or missing it will cause rattling. Also this might sound strange but I have a buzzing noise at about the same rpm and sounds like it comes from shifter area but I have traced it down to the vacuum system that controls the vents...must be a weak pod or a leak somewhere....system works good so I don't plan on messing with it anytime soon.

Some people want to keep a buzz going. Anyways since it is eliminated by hiolding your shifter you have it.

We should start a club. I also have a 1985 300SD that has a buzzing noise coming from the shifter and its definately coming from the shifter. Could be like everyone is saying. The bushing down below and the vibrations is traveling up and 'ends' at the vibrating shifter handle.
As for the drive shaft, I cant see that if the car is in park, the drive shaft moves. If you have an automatic, then the trans is locked and thus not moving the shaft. It might move a little (rotate) because your universal joints might be bad but not rotating a full 360 and then some!? Is it?
The rear axle is also preventing you shaft from moving because it can't possibly disengage from the gears & moving the vehicle forward rotates the shaft.

Yes, Thats it, I will call Phil and tell him to send new u-joints!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The shaft does not move 360 degrees, just about 1/16 th of a turn untill the
diff stops it.
