Problem with the subframe mount install...quick q

Quick question...I am following the famous ritter-easley directions.

I am trying to press the new mount in. Its pressed all the way into the subframe, put when I take pressure off, its pops out fairly easily. I am not putting the bolt in yet, I was expecting the mount to press in and stay all the way in on its own volition.

Is this normal? Will it not fully seat until I put the big bolt in there. I guess I was expecting it to 'thunk' right in there.

Many thanks as always,
dd

Mine didn't come back out after pressing in. Are you sure you received the correct part?

If it comes right back out - did you really have to "press" the new one in? Was it difficult getting it in?

I tried to "jack" mine in place by resting the weight of the car on the bushing after starting it - didn't move but 1/2 inch after sitting all night.

Is the bushing going all the way into the mount?

The ones I installed were very tight. I had to use some lube to get them in place, Even then they were not quite flush all the way around, like within an 1/8'' or so. These are the rear subframe mounts....correct? I think the fronts were tight also but not as bad, they kind of "popped" in place.

I notice that "Tex" has 200K and "Running Snail" almost 400K. If you guys get a chance it would be interesting to hear what your symptoms of bad sub frame bushings were, I assume "drifting in the wind". I notice the difference between my low millage 240 and the higher millage one. Maybe this is a job I should be thinking about.

Im putting in front rear subframe mounts. The type that connect the subframe to the floor in front of the rear tires, near the rear jack points.

I am sure i have the right part (ill double check), i ordered it from phil and it looks exactly the same as the old one.

I lubed it and pressed it in with the jack. I even made a tool out of wood to apply pressure around the mount. I jacked it up into the subframe, and it goes all the way in. I lift the car right off the jackstand - full weight of car is on the mount.

then when I let it down it pops out. Well, out maybe 3/4 of an inch and I can pop it out by hand. It just stikes me as not right.

I replaced both shocks and subframe mounts at the same time. Control issues over high frequency bumps & clunking over sharp single bumps.

No service records came with mine, so its always a guess and studying the postings here with the search function.

Tex is having a ride height issue - actually riding too high with some positive camber. I was in the area installing new spring padsand the mounts look collapsed so I figured its a good time to just do it.

The old mount is much less rubbery and 1/2 collapsed in compared to the new fresh ones.

I havent had symptoms too much since I havent driven this car 300 miles in 6 months due to being in garge intensive care.

Ok, take the old mount and use it to press against the new one. You may be pushing the metal center piece in and the mount won't go any further. Try pressing against the rubber part along the outer edge. Good luck.

What is the R&R procedure on these mounts. My car has started to do that drifting around on the highway thing if there is high wind.

Ara - I used the ritter-easley method.

Takes a few reads through to fully understand, since I just did this feel free to ask away...

Got it, I think

So I pushed it in and it popped out about a half inch. I then just proceeded forward and pushed the bolt in and torqued it to 120 nm.

Really wasnt too bad in the end.

When I was tourque ing it down I felt the bolt slip a bit near 120 nm. I hope it wasnt stripping or something zany like that. I cant see any way it would, but ill re check it tomorrow.

Anyone have an update on this link. Mine never really seated correctly, and I would like to correct it. Thanks!
