Paid 1 cent for Haynes Manual at Autozone

I bought the Haynes 1976-1985 Manual from Autozone. When the guy scanned it it came up with a price of 1 penny (regularly $17.99). He called the manager over, she rescanned it and confirmed it was one cent and said Auto Zone was clearing out old stuff and the price was correct. Maybe selling it for a penny rather than throwing it away is a way for Autozone's inventory to post correctly on the corp computers. I gave them the penny and left with the book. She also said there were other items like that but had no idea which items were a penny.

The book is not great but was better than nothing. For anyone interested, she seemed to imply that this "house cleaning" was going on chain wide, so if you happen to be in a AutoZone and they have the book, you might want to take it up to the counter and have them scan it for the cost.

Yeah, I was gonna say that's about what it's worth. But I guess there is some good stuff in there. Just double check any specs. and of course it is not the FSM.

slarson80,
Got it running without replacing #265 but it is knocking (detonation to us gas engine guys) because I being lean. After reinstalling the injectors the tubes that run between the injectors are leaking too. I will be replacing all.

Hey, I was the original poster and just thought ... If anyone goes to buy any other books that are a penny, let us know: I work on lots of cars. Thanks.

I got one !

.
My wife was in town.
had her pick me one up.

She said the guy at the counter looked it up on the computer,
and the computer said to throw it away !

I wonder if the old Mercedes has gotten so popular,
that they are going to come out with another book or something ?

Thanks for the tip.

It has a few good things like how to do a front brake job.
But, if you look at the rear cover you'll notice that the "expert" mechanic doesn't even have the hood open all the way.

The MB ones aren't very useful (maybe slightly for certain jobs, but overall the FSM is the way to go, I have it), we got a W123 book in the glove box of one of our cars when we bought it, so technically it was free.

However, for my uncle's chevy cavalier and our minivan we have both of those Haynes books, and they are extremely helpful. We've done a number of jobs on both cars and saved a TON of money. Brakes...cooling system....pumps.....random little things like that. Way easier with the Haynes book because it outlines the disassembly and reassembly steps. Especially helpful with the minivan since you have to take half of it apart to do any major work.

Buy all you can get for a penny each. Hold on to them for a year. Sell 'em on E-Bay.

Got mine today for 1¢!
The clerk said it was their biggest sale today.
I can't remember the last time I only paid 1¢ for something.
Has anyone tried to see if any other books are on the 1¢ sale?
