dazed and confused
alright I did the engine swap got her back up and running, still need to adjust the valves no biggie tho. I have several questions. I searched the fourms and am not totally comfortable with what I found so I decieded to ask. Well I see on the instrument cluster what looks like a digital screen in the middle on the bottom but it does not come on what is it? Is it normal to have the turn the key slightly back from the rebound point when starting the car to get items like the fan, radio and such to work? it is a very fine line between power and shutting the car off. The car shifts very hard from 1-2 then stays there. I dont think it made it into third I may be wrong but if it did it was very smooth (undetectable) but I know it did not shift all the way through the gears because the engine is rapped up but still only doing 35 mph. so I tryed to force shift it 2-3-D but it acts the same so then I tried to let it shift into 2 then rap it up drop it into N then back to D the trans slips then shifts into th next gear. if I stop at a stop sign the same thing no shift. Vacuume problems? or more severe. I ahve the trans out of the 84 but the fluid looks slightly milky. I took that as moisture, and elected to use the trans out of the 83. I need to trace the vacume lines to make sure I replaced them correctly. how much vac should I have on the main line right at the first T? It takes forever to feel it pull a vac on my tonge I know this is not very scientific but it was a quick check. When you turn the key off it shuts off right now tho. Tach. The old car had three wires (83) coming out of the tach amp. The new one (84) only has two and did not have a amp in the black thing just a little short cap. Will it work if I plug the amp form the 83 into the 84 plug? I kept the sensor off the 83 motor because the po cut the wires on the 84.

The little display is outside temperature, it has its own plugs, might not be plugged in, also a common failure to have the display bleed out.
Ignition switch might be dying, might just need lube.

Lets look deeper at the transmission
Has anyone expericed the scenerio that I posted earlier? Car will shift once then hold in that gear until I drop into neutral then it will shift once more when i put into drive. Could this be a case of weak vacume and the higher revs in neutral causes better vacuume? I think I have the vacuum lines hooked back up correctly. But... there were more vacuume lines on the 83 body than on the 84. I have still not figured that one out yet.
