Do bugs hit your windshield?

driving my cars lately, I noticed debris (bugs, fluff, light stuff) hit an airstream over the hood and get wafted above the windshield... in my Cheby astro, NOTHING gets pushed above the window. same with the suburban... airflow must be really well engineered on these 123 and 126 cars! cool!

what is a lovebug? is it a type of beetle? around here the mayflies come out heavy in the fall and you can drive into a swarm of the suckers "SPLAT" usually all over the suburban... I can't wait to see what they do to the 123.

I ran into a swarm in TX a few years ago, was amazing how many you could hit, one swarm could completely obscure the view forward to the point where washers/wipers were just a smear factory. The only time I used an ice scraper in TX.

I must hit about 20-30 BIG bugs every time I go on the freeway for an hour. All with slimy nastyness that smears all over the window, even with my mega strong "bug guts dissolving" wiper fluid. Bugs seem to overcome the air stream with their mass, and go straight into the windshield while the air goes up and over, probably because the windshield on our cars is fairly steep.

I hit a cardinal once too....it flew down over the road when I was going 55mph....it hit the front of the hood on the corner above one of the lights at top speed, proceeded to slide along the airstream of the car, smacked the pillar, went over the roof and down on the road. It was probably dead on impact, it got blood on the hood and pillar...

Once while driving my old Beetle down a country road, I drove through a thick swarm of exploding juice-bugs. Not really sure what they were, except disgusting. No wiper fluid either. The car was absolutely covered in goo. Something I'll never forget.

But yea, I still get bugs on my windshield.

I see that you live in WV.....what area?? I've never heard of those exploding juice bugs......

I live in Doddridge County.....and came very close to hitting a turkey a couple of weeks ago.....I imagine that wild turkeys would do a bit of damage to the windshield and the car.....I must have startled it, and the damn bird flew right down the middle of the road.....impressive wingspan......

I was actually in rural Illinois at the time, on a road between corn fields. I thought it was smoke before they started hitting the car. They reminded me of cave crickets because they were light snot colored, and turned to goo as soon as they touched the windshield. I was left with a bunch of slime and some twiching legs and body parts.
