I am think of removing my aircon in my 240D. I figure lighten the car up a bit and provide a little better air flow to the radiator. Any issue I should worry about?

i don't think that your reasons justify the hastle. you are removing maybe 30lbs and the condenser does not seem to affect airflow to the radiator.

now if it is not operational and you don't want it then have at it, jst don't expect anything significant like 10* cooler temps or a few second off your 0-60

Just the resale value, the more hacks these cars have the less they are worth. I agree that you will gain very little by removing the AC equipment.

You'd probably save that much weight by keeping your fuel tank at no more than a 1/4 full. Not worth the hassel.

You may gain some medical bills from the neck snapping acceleration you'll get once half the horsepower is not wasted turning the compressor.

he'd most likeli save more weight that way. a gal of diesel is lighter than water so we'll say 6 lbs. 10 gal is 60 lbs.

Go on a diet, and have a big turd before you drive. Same effect.

Mine has never worked on the 240D so 5years ago when the Alt. bracket broke I started to remove the hoses, etc... to get at the broken nuts. Makes my life under the hood now so much better. Save the parts or sell them some of the hoses are worth $$. If you plan on keeping the car go for it. This spring I was able to to get at the starter from the top side to change it out, easy and lots of room. next month I'll be doing the motor mounts and oil coolant lines. looks to be a real easy job. So go for it, I have never regretted it.

Ditch the spare tire, jack, and lug wrench; keep only those seats in the car you immediately intend to use; remove the floor mats, headliner, and door panels; make sure your dipstick is always at minimum; and scrape about 20 pounds of oil drips off the bottom of the car.

It's pretty straightforward. If the AC doesn't work and you don't have any desire for it, why not get it out of your way? It should open up the bay a bit and make working on things a bit easier. Performance and air flow gains would probably be negligible but ease of access when working on the engine make up for it. Like 2dieseljohn said, take the parts out carefully and you could probably get some decent coin for them.

Wow, a mobile parts car.

I have decide to remove the Aircon, because 1) aircon doesn't work, 2) I a only caring for the engine any more, no more than basic maintenance as the engine will be going into a series land rover, 3) it just a basic commuter with a short drive, 4) I never had a car with Aircon, 5) I really won't need the car for more than a year, 6) I didn't pay much for the car and don't have much in it.

I hadn't thought about all the weight savings. How light could you make a 240D? Think about less weight, faster acceleration. A greased lighten-ing 240D, maybe I'll try it before I pull the engine.

If any wants the parts, you can have them for the price of shipping.
