how to drain the fuel 190d 1984

hey y'all i'm down in southwest arizona with my little 190d. she started smoking pretty bad, looks like light blue to mostly white smoke. i've decided to drain the fuel from the tank and i know that there is some kind of plug under the car to do that but i can't find it. it tried to siphon the diesel with a hose but ended up with a mouthfull of the @%@# and only got about 1 gallon. anyone know where to find this plug hole? or other causes for the smoke, i've got some d.purge on the way from Inter Auto Parts out of San Diego, was about $30 with shipping for 3 bottles - anyone found a cheaper source for the purge? many thanks for all the info that people share here!!!!

phil

update on that last post

hey again, well i guess they charged me to much for shipping...did seem a little high when i ordered it. anyway the guy just emailed me and then refunded with paypal. it was only $26 for the 3 bottles. why are LiquiMoly products only sold by so few companies?

Doubtful that your fuel is the cause unless you're burning old engine or trans oil as fuel.

If you want to drain it, follow the fuel lines back to the tank and find the one that enters at the bottom of the tank. Have a few big buckets handy. Good time to replace the screen too.

yea it's a longer story than what i first wrote

i'm draining the fuel because it's been in there for about 2 years. i just got this car from an older lady who parked it for a few years when it first started smoking. it's a manual and it's got about 89k miles on it, she sold it to me for $1300, which would be a bit high i think if the interior were not in very good shape. anyone have anything to add on that? anyway it's a zippy little car i put in 2.5 gallons of fuel above the already (2-year-old) 4 gallons that was in it and started it up to test it. blew out a fair amount of smoke but shifted nice and it's much faster than my current car (1980 300sd) which i'm about to put in storage.

always helps to know what the *story* is....you'll learn that as you post more.

If you are trying to determine if the fuel in the tank is bad, or if it is the engine itself, then set up a temporaty tank in the engine compartment and run it off of fresh D2 the same as if you were going to do a DP.

If it still smokes, a valve adj would be in order and if that doesnt help then a comp test.

do you know how much a compression test usually costs? and if there is excessive wear on the pistons-and this is what's causing the smoke, what can be done then? i guess these are basic, but i'm for sure a newbie
