W124 Fuel Sending Unit

Well, I figured out why my fuel gauge finally died, I took it out and it was in several pieces. Looks as if the bottom of the metal rod completely corroded and fell apart. So I am looking to buy a new one, and noticed used one for a 190E (201 body style) that looks identical (except it is black whereas mine is off white) for less than a third of the cost of one for a W124. Are these interchangeable??
