Unhappy Can anyone tell me where the auxillary Fan switch is on 240D?

Hello everyone. I have a 1981 240D with 225K.

I recently had the freon recharged and replaced the condenser fan. while I was changing the condenser fan , I also ordered the condenser (aka auxillary fan) switch.

I replaced the switch with on the one on the main engine block (between the 2 and 3 injectors), but now my temp guage is not working at all.

I was wondering if I replaced the wrong temp switch. The thread patterns were the same, but the outside of the two switches looked different. The old one I took out says "VDO max temp 120 C".

Can anyone please help me out here. Did i replace the right temp switch? Is the new switch broken which is why the temp guage is now not working? Or are there two different switches one for temp guage and one for aux fan?

I would really appreciate a knowledgeable response here, as I am truly baffled.
