250TD, anyone know anything about these?

Has anyone seen one of these before? I know its a craiglist listing but I feel it'll get ignored in that thread. Its an interesting model a I think it could use a little discussion. A bit expensive though. Looks nice from the photos.
Some of the highlights are:
Interesting headlights.
Weird options.

Stupid looking headlights, but a 5sp manual hooked up to a 2.5 liter diesel. Nice.....
Uh, and you're right: pricey

I kind of like the headlights, reminds me a little of the 123's. Are those lamps aftermarket? I've never seen a 124 with the round ones.

That one had been on CL for quite some time. Probably because of the price. I think it's kind of a finny looking car they way it's all tricked out.

What strikes me as strange are the trim combinations and window controls.

I for one could not stand that red color - that's not "my cup of tea", the British would say. Is that red color ever used in the US W124 wagons? A nice color combination would be a selling point. A $5000 price is probably more reasonable.

Should be exactly the same as the 90-93 300D 2.5 sold in the states but obviously in a wagon.

Its the uniqueness of the car that stirs my curiosity. Were the 2.5's available as a 5 manual in US spec?

If it's a factory-spec diesel with a 5-speed, then it'd be a fun car to have and put back to normal - the wheels, headlights, dark tint, and repaint are not a good sign of intelligent ownership.

The guy in the listing stated it had been a project. I wonder what he meant?

Except it's not a turbo. It might be a tad slow of the line.

But the 5 speed would help.

I take statements like that with a huge grain of salt. It probably means that you'll have to sort the car out for a long time after you buy it.

Leather front and cloth back seats? Electric front and manual rears? Stock maybe, but not in the same car.

I've heard of some strange combinations like power windows in front and manuals in the rear in older Euro models but never the seats.

I've seen Euro-spec cars with electric front windows and manual rears, but there is no reason to have leather front seats and cloth back seats.
