Reverse won't work 1980 300SD
Hello,
I have a 1980 300SD Turbo Diesel automatic. This morning I backed out using the reverse gear fine. I drove about 300 miles (currently in Temuco, Chile) and parked at a gas station. I tried to back out, and the reverse won't engage. No kick indicating shifting of gear or anything, it feels like and acts like it's on neutral. What's going on? PS. I checked the fluid (what is that other fluid besides the oil you check near the back?) and it was damn near if not empty. Filled it up and but didn't help. Thanks, Elliott |

How are your shifter bushings...maybe its not getting into the right position for reverse?? If you ran it low on fluid it may have damaged something.....otherwise others will have to give some ideas....

The nearly useless ATSG manual indicates that it is a problem with your B3 band. It may ( or may not )be as simple as the adjuster backing out. The adjuster is located on the passenger side of the case, toward the front. See if one of the bolt-like adjusters backed out. This happened on the 77 240D I bought and probably helped me buy it cheaply.
Good luck Rick
