1985 ip ??

can anyone tell me the purpose of the box with the wire leads on an 85 ip?? will this pump work on earlier 617's?

That is a fuel rack position sensor. It's only reason for existence is to let the EGR computer know the throttle position. It will work fine on earlier models.

timing 85

I asked my indie the other day about the that wire and box. If I remember
him right, to time the engine he has to use some sort of electric gizmo
to set it. It`s not the same and timing the older models. but the 85 pump
will work on earlier cars.
That wire plugs into a large plug on the firewall.

there were three HP ratings on the OM616...
