Front end clunk - New suspension _ I have searched
Hi all...
I haven't been driving the 300SD much since last winter. I have been working on it quite a bit. I have replaced all suspension and steering parts, the exception being the springs. I have about 1500 miles on the new stuff (Lemforder or Febi) and note the following. When turning only to a full left, driving forward and backwards, applying the brakes, I get a clunk / snap / crack sound. It will only do this one time per direction, from the right side. No issues over bumpy roads. No issues driving and or stopping when go straight ahead. It is almost like something is hyper-extended. It was so strong. I got out to see if the bearing holder had popped off its mounting. Additionally I have thought I felt the right wheel position change. Nothing that I can see and therefore looking for some help and methods to isolate the problem. My first thought was guide rod...but it is so new....offset by knowing parts can be bad out of the box. I searched this out... almost all the links that discuss this end without a the person sharing the resolution to the problem. I assume therefore never fixed. Thanks in advance, Don

Did you replace the strut rod bushings? I had similar noises that went away when I properly torqued the nut under the spring cup. 36 foot-pounds IIRC.
