No cars with less than 100K
’82 240D guessing at 165K with an intermittent ODO
’87 300SDL at 142K ‘00 Suburban at 115K and just this week…….. ’96 C220 at 100K All are about the same in cost/reliability, with the Chevy being the most expensive, but you can't beat "Thumper" for long range kid hauling. Keep 'em maintained and the oil fresh, and they just keep going. Gotta love it! And no house payment either! Hasta la Vista! Clay

Funny, I only have 2 cars that have less than 136K, and they are my 2 oldest! My '79 Chevy pickup that I bought brand new has 99,700, and my '67 Camaro has 59,800 or so. Next oldest is China with 136K, wife's '99 Toyota van has about 140K, '97 F-150 had 203K, the Squash and wagon are listed in sig.

Ironically, of all our cars, the one with below 100k (minivan with 90,500ish on it) is BY FAR the least reliable. The thing seems to need major rest and repair after every 1-2,000 miles or so. Plus, when you try to work on it, things are rusted out/corroded together, or break when you try to remove them. The whole thing is made of recycled brake rotors. Our diesels haven't needed any major work in many months and tens of thousands of miles aside from regular fluid/filter changes etc... Last thing I did to my car was replace the alternator in June, and I knew it was failing for about 3 months beforehand...due to its sub-par voltage output.
My uncle has a '96 cavalier that he bought brand new....it now has 122k on it, and has never actually broken down. He does drive it very gently though, he's a granny driver. All that has EVER been replaced on it: alternator, brakes (once!) serpentine belt (twice), power steering pump (twice, due to a bad replacement), and he had the head gasket replaced due to some oil leakage. Just recently put it on Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic oil...and it loves it. Now, its still a totally unsafe, rattly, uncomfortable piece of GM product....but overall ownership costs and reliability have been quite good. The engine burns NO oil, at 122k! Tranny shifts good too....I changed that to synthetic Mobil 1 half a year ago or so....

Just a click over 40,000 and it has the original motor (FBF high comp pistons though) and still will pull the front end in the air and cruise all day long. Not trying to be an ass but anything under 200,000 just doesn't impress me. Sorry for all the smilies above, my 4 year old likes to play with them.

200K is probably the new standard for a decently maintained auto, though used car dealers still consider 100K the 'kiss of death'.
Im hoping my '98 Nissan makes 200K, and I believe my '81 240D is already there - though I'm not sure as the PO replaced the speedometer (with the wrong one - I need to replace it again!) Happy Motoring, Mark

I have nothing under 150K... 00 astro van, 164K 97 Suburban, 249K, currently running with a cold idle miss... gotta track that down, but otherwise bullitproof. 90 AWD safari... 215K, spun main... ouch. 87 astro 479K.... no issues, but MAN does this thing eat rear diffs... and door handles... 82 SD 388K 79 TD, unknown pervious owner odo did not work when he got it, showing 179K I estimate over 350K those are my major vehicles that I drive often...

I think the trick is to go over 200K with the major items - original engine, tranny, rear end - still working. My daily driver, '98 Nissan Altima, is well on it's way at over 150,000 miles, and everything is still working except the factory CD player.
Outside of normal maintenance items, it's needed a left CV boot, a right halfshafft, left rear-wheel bearing, an oil-pressure switch, rear sway-bar links, and tensioner pulleys for the drivebelts (But thankfully there's no timing-belt) Hoping the engine, tranny and AC are still going at 200K! Happy Motoring, Mark

My '83 300SD has 274k miles on what appears to be the original running gear (judging by the thickness of the layer of crud on the underside). Every other car I've owned had at least 160k on the clock, except for one. All had the original motors and transmissions.

Is it the price of NEW, or do cars just last longer now? Maybe a little of both?

Wow, You guys have a lot of miles on some of those vehicles. Pretty impressive actually, and VERY comforting to know how far these things can really go. I only have one vehicle with more than 100k on it. One of my 79 300CD's has 138k on it at the moment. Everything else is WAY under, and will likely be sold off, or whatever, long before i ever get the chance to see 100k. Either way however, it's rather comforting to read about the longevity of these fine MBZ vehicles.
