I didn't realise they were making those in 1980. That would be a sweet ride. I wonder how hard it would be to drop a turbo 617 in there!?

AFAIK, they were never sold in the U.S. with a diesel. They are geared pretty low, not very fast.

Well you're not going to go very fast off road.

Unfortunately, that's about the average price for one in decent condition. I bet the one on ebay gets bid up considerably at the last minute. My guess is that is will end up in the $8-10K range, and it needs work. |

So what makes them so special? Is it just the novelty of a 4X4 diesel Mercedes?

I thought about the one in CT (a little), but it sounds like a project and I'm going to be much too busy for the next 6-7 weeks to play around with buying a long-distance project car. |

I like 300GDs, but yuck, did you see the rust?

That's what I meant by "needs work," probably an understatement. I certainly wouldn't consider it without seeing it in person. I bet it still gets $8-10K.

Rusty... nasty.
The G Wagons are well built and quite capable off road. The premium over here though is definitely their limited availability. |

Can't believe it looks that bad, with all that rust and it has obviously been repainted, major overspray on rubber.
