Got a new 300D, some questions

Well i found a 1980 300D N/A for $1250. interior and exterior are in really good shape, and there are not too many issues. It has 117k on it and has zero blowby, the cap does not move and no gases come out. The vacuum system is very strong and does not leak, all door locks work, cruise works great, and car turns off. It has a car phone that works and when i dial it comes up with an Alltel error message. i wonder if i can get a Pay-as-you-go plan going and put like $50 on it that would be cool.

The bad:
the AC does not work(figured that tho)
Tires are shot
motor mounts need replaced (easy job)
The car wont catch in park all the time, it will on my banked driveway, but on normal ground it wont catch. you can hear it click past it and then catch. (what does that involve fixing? is it tranny or rear differential)

also the AC, well i have included a picture of the Low pressure line and i think it has not been converted. am i right?

oops, the brown one is my 240D.

Oh man, that one is a sweetheart. VERY lightly used, with such low miles.

That color is one of the best, too, it highlights the car's style so well.

We are going to call the Police on you because you stole it for the price you paid....

Are there books and records on it? Some notion of its history?

What is I see here is a real likely candidate for membership in the trunk triangle thread....put one of those in, a set of Euro lights on her, and a set of MacNeil Weather tech floor mats in the front, and maybe high quality NZ sheepskins, just fitted ones for the front seats and you are looking at a half a million or more miles ahead.

Consumer Reports tested a 300D in 1978, and said "it is the best car we ever tested in the entire history of our testing cars"

High praise; but they really are that good.

Excellent. Well bought.

well i bought it through a local mechanics shop, and they did not want to tell me who was selling it. so i was haggling the price through him. first i said $800, and he said that the seller will take no less than $1500. ahah so i know what i was up against. so i showed up like 3 weeks later and drove it again, then offered $1000. and 2 days later the guy called and said that the seller would split it at $1250 with me. Well when i went to pick up the car and title, the bill of sale had the ladies info on it. so now i know where she lives, and i think i will write her a polite letter asking if she still has any car receipts or at least some history.

i do have 2 more questions, when i accelerate quickly and make a turn, i hear a screetching sound comming what sounds like the front tires. are those bearings?

also park brake is really weak, it will barely hold the car in my driveway. what do i check there?

Yeah, I agree it really is a nice looking car. Sure is cool that it is right hand drive as well. What color is the interior?

It's only a right hand drive car in one of the photos, I assume that photo is reversed.

I didn't even see it at first, but the photo looked a little "off." I wonder how that happened, some kind of computer magic?

All right Mister. Best get that signature updated post-haste!! You have a new Mercedes and you're already slacking.
I happen to think that you got an amazing deal on your "new" car. It appears to be a very solid citizen. Like others, I'm a huge fan of that color. Interior looks good too. I very much like the NA 5cyl's. My guess is you will also. You can also polish up that air cleaner cover too.
I think it is a good sign when they have a hood pad on them. That and a cell phone usually seem to be signs that the car was nicely taken care of. After all, cell phones of that vintage started out quite pricey.
Oh, and be sure and let me know if you decide to get rid of that nasty little simplistic radio.
Again, I'm sorry about your wrecked car, it was nice too. But you did well. Where's that Henna interior going????
