Tie Rod Troubles...;(

I'm swapping my outer DS tie rod on my '83 300cd (just the end not the whole assem) and I'm having a ***** of a time getting the end pressed in. Any tricks? I've heated it, jacked it, clamped it and it keeps slipping sideways instead of sinking. Maybe I should rotate it a bit to line it up better with the spindle piece.
Any help would be welcome!
Cheers

If I understand the situation, you can rotate the wheel assembly until the tie rod end is straight up or down from the hole in the spindle arm. Then just put a jack under the tie rod end and jack it up a bit til it seats then crank down the nut.

Still can't sink the thing...blah ...annoying. I think I'm going to heat the hell out of it in the morning. I suppose putting the tire/hub back on (I changed the bearings as well) and touching it down might help stabilize it from the spindle end. I've had no problems before doing tie rods, they've been grumpy but always popped. Is there a tool that'd help? Bugger.
Thanks T, I'll put a more whole hearted effort in tomorrow.
