I was wondring if someone could inlighten me on wether or not mercedes used computers in any of their diesels. If so what year/model did they start? I really enjoy the simplicity of my 76 300D and am considering picking up another project car. I would like to avoid anything with complicated electronics. Thanks.

I believe they started using computers in the W124 chassis, for the diesels. I think it was the 1987 300D had electronic turbo boost control. Get a 1982-1985 300D, they had turbos, yet got better fuel economy than your car. MB somehow managed to increase horsepower by 45% and increase fuel economy at the same time. Like you, I like the simplicity of an older diesel. Everything can be adjusted, no faulty wiring or relays to worry about. Ok, well maybe the glowplug relay, but essentially that's it.
