The only problem with getting an EGR blocking kit

If you're going to put an EGR block plate on, you might as well pull the air cleaner off, great time to replace that broken bracket so it won't rattle around.
Then once you have the EGR tube off, it's really nasty in there, so you might as well pull the manifolds off to clean them up.
You'll be getting the turbo off anyway to do that, so you might as well check the wastegate and the seals on the oil return tube.
Now would be a great time to do that leakdown test, with the manifolds off you can tell if there's a leak past the valves...

... so I figure at this rate, I'll be pulling the engine out next week

That's called MAW disease (Might As Well), a common affliction for car nuts.

That explains why my "other car" still isn't running. The 396 stroker is nearing completion, but it's got lots of extra stuff on it...and as long as I had the car down I bought wider wheels, wider tires, bigger brakes, blah, blah, blah.

well i replaced my 616 engine in my 240d, the maw got to me, so i said "well i might as well put a 617 in there" im about 2 weeks away from starting the project.

pearl black 1983 240d 4speed (Converted!@$$%) atleast the tranny was rebuilt.
