Broken spedometer and odometer. Cable tools.
Can someone tell me how you disconnect the spedometer cable at the tranny? Mine appears broken. I see many threads saying it's easy to change out but none acutally saying how to go about it. Any special tools needed etc? Mine is a four speed stick.

If you talking about your 240D, manual there is a 10mm bolt on the driver side of your tranny which locks the spedo end in. Pull that bolt and the cable comes out. Just follow the cable down to it. The other end, of course you must pull the instrument cluster.

I was browsing through the Virginia vehicle code today and found out that it is illegal here to drive a car without a working speedometer. I never knew that. So if you happen to be stopped for speeding, don't say "I don't know how fast I was going because my speedometer is broken...."
