Millie is Unofficially Semi-Retired (or something like that)

Picked up a couple of old Volvos to play with and daily drive. Millie is now officially a "lady of leisure".

I hated putting so many miles on that car (14k in 8 months or so). Now I can just drive it when I want to....and when it makes more sense...ie, not during rush hour! I never did do any short trips...the wife's Sienna gets that rotten duty.

I figure now I should be able to keep her below 100k by the time I retire (7-10 years). Then Millie can be my geezer retirement car! She'll be about 32 - 35 years old and just hitting her prime by then Just like me

A couple of members here just picked up Volvo 780's. Jorn was one of them.

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=192673

They are honeys, especially with the 4 cylinder, and the turbo. Ultra exclusive units with leather, wood, and inimitable Bertone coupe styling.
Don't abuse it. It is the lovliest looking Volvo ever made.

Very limited edition cars, too.

Volvos are great for getting you there

I saw a black 2 door Volvo at a dealers once
coupe really impressed me. I don't know if it was the Bertone
but this was old style cars & most were 4 door sedans

Thought a few times to get one
but my Volvo 740 never did me wrong
She can't help shes a big girl...
So I stuck w her

Easy on the Sienna talk. My wife's '99 Sienna is the best running vehicle we have by far. Maybe the best vehicle we've ever owned. We just try and ignore the mini-van part......

millie

Is Millie the cream-puff (and cream colored) SD that was at the DFW/Houston get together at Centerville?

If so, you're cheatin' for best 126 by not driving her

I'm claiming foul!

That or I'm bringing my garage queen CLK to claim low miles...

All kidding aside - if that is the car - I'm jealous of her (don't tell my 235K SD!)

Our '98 has 177k miles and has only had one coil and the rear latch replaced (other than normal maintenance items, of course).

It's a real keeper!

I once considered buying a mini-van, but I decided driving with a paper bag over my head was probably unsafe.

Yep, that's her, except it was Berry Hill Farm - she won Best Looking W126.

My wife and I talked about selling her. Once I started talking about preservation etc, the frugal slavic in my wife comes out!

Seriously, we debated the sense of just hanging onto a car worth this much, for 10 years, when we have a daughter starting college next year and a son a couple years behind her.

Then I consider the liklihood of ever finding another car that has been this babied, with these few miles, and with the care it has received (just since Berry Hill I've done the ball joints, new hood pad, new coolant reservoir, window tint and continued to change oil, trans fluid, brake fluid, PS fluid and all filters way too often!). No telling what my replacement cost would be 10 years from now. I think it is a moot point though, because I would probably not be able to find one like this by then.

So, it looks like we will just keep the dirt off and the bugs out, biobor the fuel, change the fluids based on time, and drive it 20 to 50 miles at a shot once a month to keep things moving.

Unless we change our minds..... Then I deserve to be shot!
