If he is in Frankfurt then he's a couple hours away (at auto-bahn speeds)

It took us about 2 hours and 20 mins to drive from Frankfurt airport to Sindelfingen....we had a c220cdi

Vielen Dank!

Thank you for the warm welcome!
I am in Frankfurt, which is about two hours from Stuttgart via Autobahn.
What amazes me most, is that Mercedes sends only four diesel models to the USA. Only one is a saloon. Here, half of the cars are diesels. Fuel has always been cheap in the USA, but as conflict in the Middle East grows, prices are going up. Thus the need for more fuel efficient cars arises. I do not understand why Mercedes does not sell the C220 CDI, E220 CDI, etc. across the Atlantik. The E220 CDI accomplishes 42 MPG on your scale and is available with a manual transmission. For those who want power, the V8 CDI models are perfect. Enough power, and and relatively good consumption on the highway.

I guess I shouldn't be boasting of fuel consumption of our CDIs when my daily driver is a 6,2 liter AMG V8

Willkommen!

Greetings, welcome to the forum. My wife and I loved our visit to Frankfurt many years ago, even though we traveled mit der Bahn instead of by Mercedes.

Welkommen

My father's mother and father came to USA from Germany also, long ago, from towns in Rhineland, and settled in San Francisco.

My father never cared about Mercedes, the Diesels (W115 I think) he rode in sounded to him "like a bucket of bolts" and he like the quiet smooth Cadillacs better, but mostly only purchased Fords.

The 240 D is a great car. Many of the good W123 cars were sold at autojumbles and went to Lebanon and the middle east or gastarbeiters took them back to Turkey and other lands.

More failed the TuV inspection and went to West Africa.

Others got stolen and went to Albania and Eastern Europe.

You are lucky to still have yours and it passed the TuV

They are still good cars to look at and drive even today. The diesels can last about forever, if the rust doesn't kill them

Most of the W123 we have in USA are 240/300 Diesels.
Some were beat on real bad and still run.

Good to see you here, it is the best place to learn about the W123 diesels.
