Recently, I had my starter replaced on my '84 300D. The bottom bolt was broken and the top bolt was gone, but that's an altogether separate thread...

Since picking the car up from the shop, there is a noticable increase in cabin noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. I know that the noise is engine RPM-related, and not drivetrain-related, because of some simple highway tests I've done. I noticed also that the MB mechanic added some sort of heat shield between the starter and the exhaust manifold, which was not present before I took it in. My flex pipe looks okay, and there is no obvious loosened bolt or nut. Why is my car so loud inside? It makes long trips almost unbearable...

Any ideas? Yeah, I know...I should ask the tech who installed it...

Hey Matt:

Wish I could offer some help but I can't come up with anything. Just wanted to drop a quick note of thanks. My 300TD is noticeably faster with the first two things checked off your list. EGR and Throttle. You're a genius!

Thanks

Don

You're welcome, Don. Glad to help. If you fiddled with the turbo and ALDA settings, you might get even better performance, but I'd understand if you didn't want to push your luck...
