What goes here?

Okay, I'm having a dumb moment that happens to have lasted for a few days. As I'm reassembling the interior of the 300D, I have found a hole in the carpet matching up to a hole with a threaded clip, but I don't remember anything bolting to it.

Help?

The green circle is where the seatbelt attaches. What the heck goes in the red circle? It's present on both sides of the car.

Nothing there on my car, but then it's a few years newer. Sorry, all I can offer is encouragement...
The amount of work you've done so far is very impressive. Keep plugging away, like the rest of us!
Your wife is quite a sport, rolling up her sleeves and pitching in! (in your other thread)
I'm lucky too, my wife is willing to pitch in to some degree, but she draws the line at wrenching.

I use it for convincing the car to do what I want it to.

Actually, I broke the head off of my rubber mallet a while back, and I needed something to pound down the carpet to ensure a good bond with the contact cement. I only lightly went over the carpet with it, as opposed to actually pounding on things. I sure hope I never have to remove this carpet, since it'll put up a heck of a fight if I ever try removing it.

She better be pitching in. She's the one that picked the car! I would have been happy spending twice as much and doing only half the work to have a working vehicle.

......
That's because nothing does bolt to it. I don't know why it is there.

I recall something that went in there, a pin maybe for something. When reinstalling may be obvious. Sorry I can't be of any more help, the car I dealt with is gone. Neither of my current cars have anything there.

I really am beginning to believe that it's just there for something to bolt to which my car isn't equipped with. Unless, the car is supposed to use some sort of widget to present the seat belt for better alignment, which I can't seem to recall seeing on any W123 I've encountered.

I'm just going to go with it being a place to bolt something that my car doesn't use. Thanks for the assistance, folks. I really appreciate it!

Me too!

OK, my '85 300D W123 car has those holes on both driver and passenger side. Very hard to see, mostly blocked by the seat rail, but I was able to get an inspection mirror in there. They're about 1/4 inch in diameter, not tapped, neat 1 inch circle cut out of the carpet, no sign that anything has ever been in the holes. Hmmm.....what could I use them for?

Could that have been added to the factory carpet to accommodate some sort of wiring for something under the seat? Granted, it isn't where the usual wiring goes, but just a thought........

Besides, I spent enough years finding the perfect wife, and I've waited for things long enough. I wasn't about to spend years looking for the perfect diesel, too!"
Just my luck. I found the perfect diesel.......

Heated seats are the only option I can think of but the wiring for that should follow the seatbelt buzzer wiring. It looks more like a mechanical hole, too small for a wire cable and protective grommet.

In my car, the holes have clip nuts on them, so there is a place for a bolt to thread in to. I guess I just won't worry about it... No, just because my car has nothing to bolt there doesn't mean it's not killing me not knowing why they are there! It's like a Mercedes mystery!

JimmyL... Ouch. The thing is a diesel can be made in to the perfect diesel... A wife... Not so much.
