1987 190D Turbo transmission problem

Hi,

New member here, first posting....my 1987 190D Turbo (259K miles) will not engage top gear (auto trans). All other gears are fine including reverse. I took it to my local repair shop and the guy told me I needed a new transmission.

First of all, is it OK to drive it (slower than usual) without it going into top and if so how fast and for how long can I continue to do this?

Any other possibilities rather than replacing/rebuilding the transmission?

Your advice is much appreciated!

Thanks and regards,
Anthony
