Talking Rebuilding injector?

Has anyone hear ever rebuilt an injector. I have a 1981 300D non-turbo. I was given a set of Bosio nozzles. How do you do it? I rebuilt the engine myself, i knew the injectors was old then, but installed them to get it running. Any help would be appreciated.

Plenty of people here have done this. Do a search. You rebuilt the engine but you don't know how to rebuild an injector? That's weird. Anyway, rebuilding usually means disassembling the injector and replacing the nozzle and adjusting the pop pressure if necessary. Before you do anything, I'd just pop test the injectors. Chances are they still spray good.

If you click on the ShopForum link above and then go to the DIY section you will find tons of info WHUNTER has organized for us.

This one covers the basics. There is a part 2 also.

Make sure that you use a torque wrench when you reassemble the two halves of the injector. I believe it is 55 ft. lbs. If you don't, you will screw up the lapped surface and you will have leaks out of the middles of your injectors. If this happens, you will have to pull the injectors again and relap those surfaces.

When I tightened them together I gave it all I had with the injector in a vise and a breaker bar on the 1 & 1/4 socket. It took more than all I had to get them apart....so I figure I got close to the previous tightness. And, none of them leak, and it runs great. I did use my torque wrench for re-installing them in the engine. 80nm.

Yeah, those things are near impossible to overtorque unless you're using a breaker bar and jumping on it with your body weight. I've never used a torque wrench on injectors and never had a problem (and I've done over 20 injectors so far). I only use a 1-ft ratchet for tightening though, not a breaker bar. The only place where I use a torque wrench is the IP elements when replacing the seals.

If you have an impact wrench, you may find this to be very helpful in dissasembling the injector body (19mm impact socket). The injector body will be VERY tight if it has not been dissasembled in several years.

No kidding! That was probably the most effort in my entire life of wrenching as of yet to get those things loose.

MB made extensive use of Gorillas in the injection assembly area at the Sindelfingen plant back in the 80's.......
