Towing a 300D behind and RV

I have an 85 300D with an automatic transmission. Has anyone pulled this model of car behind their RV? I have seen kit's out there for disengaging the drive shaft. Has anyone used these on the 300D.

Here's what you do if it's so cold your diesel fuel gels. Smear some on some toast and stay inside until it warms up outside.

It must be towed with the rear wheels off the ground or it will damage the transmission.

Disengaging the drive shaft isn't practical. There isn't enough room for a disconnect device.

If you're using a tow dolly, just put the rear wheels on the dolly and pull it backwards.

I have towed both my 83 and 85 behind the MH.
You will need a tow dolly and you will need to back on.
I have yet to see one of those disconnect things
for a w123. If you are flat towing the only other option is to remove
the driveshaft.

Are these cars kinda heavy for a tow dolly?
My neighbor said they have electric pump conversions to cycle the tranny fluid, not sure if they have this kit for this car, but it may be worth checking at an RV shop.

Remco does make a driveshaft disconnect shaft for the 300d. They have to be installed at a specially registered shop. I think there are only 2 or 3 in the country. Perhaps you can get a transmission circulation pump. No dolly mfg. will recommend pulling a car with the rear wheels on the dolly. I looked into all these possibilities and decided instead to purchase a 96 Sidekick to pull behind my Wanderlodge. It seemed more reasonable to spend $2k and get a 4wd off road capable vehicle rather than putting $1500 into one of the MB's.

Even pulling a standard shift MB is not recommended although people have done it.

No, I have towed alot heavier cars that that with mine.
1 small inconvience is I get to swaying if I travel over
about 60 mph. I just set the cruise @ 55, tick people behind me off,
and enjoy the ride.

I would never use a tow dolly. They suck imho. I would use a traier or get a stick and tow in neutral with a bar.

Buying some small stickshift go-kart like an older Toyota Rav4 or something would probably be the cheapest and most fuel efficient route (they don't weigh much)....plus, they're plenty reliable and fairly cheap. And with one of those you could use a tow dolly and probably not even know it was there.
