1989 300SE diff in a 1983 300SD?

I need to replace my differential.

Would it fit?

Would the gear ratio be different? If I'm not a person who cares about my 0-60, would I care?

thanks

Does this work? Go to the 3.07 if possible, you can get one out of a 300SD
Anything over 30% change should be considered carefully with the gasser especially as it moves the torque curve pretty far. A diesel has a very broad torque curve and can accomodate a teller gear with no lugging issues like a gasser can have. If your diff has a wire coming out of it it greatly reduces the number of possible choices BTW.

You have a 3.07 in your 300SD, the 300SE uses a 3.46.

That'd be some mega off the line speed...and no top end.

The 300SE must run pretty high rev's on the highway.... Probably still much quieter than the diesel though.
