Newbie Lost only Key to 84 300D Turbo

Hello, I recently lost my only key to my merc 1984 300D Turbo W123. I ordered blanks but they didn't get here in time. The car is unlocked. I need to find a store that sells the ignition with a matching key or can reproduce a key for my existing ignition. The ignition works fine. I really appreciate any help or direction, I have searched the forum but had difficulty finding specific information. Thanks again, BH

MB can get you new keys from your VIN, assuming you haven't changed the lock cylinders out. You'll need the title to prove ownership when you pick it up, I think.

Do I contact the local dealer. Or is there a special MB contact for older parts requests. I used to work for a German MFG. So, I am not looking forward to this. They don't always keep the best records. Thank you for your help...BH

I believe you should go to your local Mercedes dealer.

As someone mentioned, it will be good to take your title and registration. The Mercedes VIN record for the car should have a key code, and new keys can be made from that code. This will work as long as the key cylinder has not been changed in the past.

It will probably take some time to get the keys - they may or may not be able to make them at the dealer.

Good luck and let us know how it works out.

Plus the dealership gives you the correct keys made from the correct blanks.

I just contacted MB of Nashville. I ordered 3 keys @ $8.75 a piece. The keys are made in Fort Worth, Tx. I will be able to pick them up tomorrow around noon. I supplied them with the VIN and they will need to verify the title and copy my ID upon pick-up. I really appreciate everyone's help. I would probably be replacing the ignition or hot-wiring the car if I didn't ask here first. THANKS AGAIN.

That's a great price. About a third of what I paid.

kinda hard to hot wire these cars. You can take the wires from the ignition and only get it to crank but you have to pull or put(can't remember which) on the shut off mechanism.

so if you are to steal a W123 bring a , wiring diagram, mity vac, and set of slim jims.

Yeah, it isn't much of a problem to get keys or locks replaced with the same as what is in your car now. Somebody broke into my 300D last year by trying to break the lock. After an unsuccessful attempt, they broke the window only to steal my $30 Chinese garbage power inverter and an empty car stereo box (I have a feeling that's what they were after). Insurance paid for the window and a VIN-matched door lock which had to be ordered from the MB stealership. The glass shop had a hard time finding a right rear window for a 124 for some reason

I paid around $10 per key at the dealership, only place you can get 'em. I waited over an hour while the parts folk hemmed and hawed, finally all is well, they had them made elsewhere and sent to the house, for an extra charge, of course. Still cheaper than me driving back up to dealership.

Do you have the name and/or address of the manufacturer?

The main warehouse for MB is here in DFW, that's where all keys are cut.

MB of Nashville, I am sure they will ship if you can fax them the appropriate documents. If its worth a shot here is their number: 800-789-0302. I spoke with a guy named Brian. He was very helpful. Thank you everyone for the info you made my day. BH
