W123 Window switch issues

Yesterday the drivers side window switch went out on my 83 300D.
i pulled the switch up as well as the passenger switch and swapped the leads from drivers window to front passenger switch.
this the window up.
this am ran some errands with the window down and up.
the passenger switch now doesnt work on the drivers window.
how can two switches go south so close together?
any thoughts?

thanks
Cliff
