transmition 1982 sd

Hello everyone. I am new to mercedes, but interested. I am thinking of buying a 1982 sd. I am concerned about 2 issues. The speedometer only goes to 80 mph, and the shifter labels say 12d. On other sd models the speedo goes to 120 or so and the shifter labels are 23d. Is this the same transmition and why the differance in speedometers? Thanks for any help.

let me tell u..... it will go well past 80mph, and im not sure why it goes 1 2 d?
Obviously it mean it will only go to first gear, then second, and then in d it goes through all.
I think the reason for the 85mph speedo is because back in the day it was supposed to promote a "safe" driving range.
Great car though!
