Mileage Unknown -your the buyer , whats your thoughts?

I ve never sold a car with some knowledge of the cars total miles ,only when I purchased a 79 300td did I realize what most mb diesel fans have known for years and that is 200k for an old mb diesel is just its half life.I do have a question about documentation for a future sell ,do you think its necessary to gather all details via Car Fax for the next owner to look over or just rely on the cars over all performance and condition to make the sell.

If you happen to purchase a Carfax subscription for some other purpose, by all means go ahead and run all your current cars so you'll have something to offer when selling.

But if there's no other reason, don't worry about making the effort to collect a Carfax report. Normally that is the responsibility of the buyer.

More of these cars than you might suspect have less miles on the odometer than the car has actually traveled. The odometers are prone to slipping and jamming of the trip feature.

My thoughts are that I am buying a used car, with high miles. I am the one who needs to make sure of what I am getting. Most private sellers will fudge a little when talking about their car. It is really buyer beware.

Bearings and bushings. These are usually the most oft ignored parts on a car.

As far as I know, CARFAX does not give mileage, only states whether or not there is evidence of tampering. For me as a buyer, I could care less about the mileage. I focus more on condition, does it smoke, blowby, etc. That is a much better gauge on the condition of the motor than mileage.
A well maintained high mileage motor is more desireable to me than low mileage one that never had the oil changed or had the ***** beat out of it.

Don't bother with Carfax. It's very overrated and unreliable.
