Gas vs. Diesel Forum Viewers - Why the Change?

When I first started hanging out on this forum, a year and a half ago, there were almost always more viewers on the "Tech Help" gas forum than on the "Diesel Discussion." In the last couple of months, however, the numbers have flipped. Today, for example, we have

Tech Help (75 Viewing)
Technical + Open discussion of Gasoline Mercedes-Benz

Diesel Discussion (93 Viewing)
Technical + Open discussion of Diesel Mercedes-Benz

What has changed? Does this represent a trend toward more interest in diesel-powered vehicles? Is it because of the interest in alternate fuels such as biodiesel? Is it because of the wonderfully helpful people that uniquely populate the Diesel Discussion? What do you think?

Jeremy

I had been a Nissan mini-truck owner for the better part of a decade (1991 SE-V6). But a baby came along, and the truck wasn't practical. I wanted a sedan for the family, and the classic MB was safe and within my price range

I bought a diesel MB because of the longevity and economy these cars offer. The possibility to run bioD was also intriguing, though there are no distributors within 100 miles of here.

I joined MercedesShop b/c of the incredibly active and helpful wise ones who frequent the diesel forum.

I still lurk on a couple of the other MB forums, but this is by far the one with the most knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful folks.

Also the Diesel forum is very specific. The Tech forum isnt called Gas forum. Some with questions would go to the vintage forum, some the SL forum, etc. If there were simply 3 forums, Diesel, Gas, and OD the results would no doubt show the opposite.

OD should not be compared with the Tech Help or the Diesel Discussion forums. It cheapens the other two to even be mentioned in the same sentence.....

I think it is because of the calibre of the members. I have posted many questions and rarely get the "should have done a search" answer. When I have gotten it I probably should have. This is a tremendous resource. I recently had a problem with an air leak in my fuel lines. A simple search was of no help. With the assistance and patience of the members of this board I was able to solve my problem and save at least several hundred dollars. This forum is great and the word is spreading.

I don't know if I'm alone in thinking this, but i feel like in the Diesel specific area, we all have a common bond. In the other areas, everyones getting info for cars, over here, we're kinda the underdog diesel guys. It seems were a tighter knit group in here.

I think in the entire time I've been on here I've ventured into OD like 4 or 5 times, it always gets very wierd, too many topics, very overwhelming, and very awkward at times.

Our cars smell better. Driving a diesel has a way of making all people, who love to work and drive them, equal. The people in this forum tend to not have attitudes about what to them was a simple question five years ago and really try to share their knowledge.

I'm a "FNG" (Fresh New Guy, what were you thinking I meant?!) to this forum and to MB diesels but I am currently driving an '81 VW Rabbit Diesel pickup. A few years ago I bought my VW with a bad engine and have rebuilt the engine completely. Because of my good experience with the Rabbit D I am looking for a MB diesel for my wife as a daily driver. I love diesels in general and a used MB is in my price range. I've surfed several other diesel websites but this is the best one because of the knowledge base and the pleasent posters here. If I want to talk to someone with a bad attitude I can go to work. Right now I'm following up on a lead on a '84 300SD that the owner is supposedly asking $500 for. I'll be on here alot more if I can make the deal. Thanks.

Diesels seem to be the cars that need the most help our diesels are mostly over 20 years old.

I post in both gas and diesel forums 'cause I can't keep my nose out of Mercedes Benz posts.

This board has become my place to be when I am sitting at my computer (or at work)
