Question Nozzle question DNSOD240 vs. DNOSD240/

All,

What is the difference between a DNOSD240 and a DNOSD240/ injector nozzle?

According to

some parts supply houses Germany I've been in touch with, there isn't. MAY have been a when and where made question. BUT, since the 240 nozzle design was new there have been FOUR design upgrades. The pilot hole (in the 240) was intended to quiet the diesel "clack" and it does by putting a minute droplet of fuel in just prior to the main charge.
The drawback is they tend to make more particle emissions (smoke) and lower fuel mileage.

This is the main difference with the Bosio nozzles. They lack the pilot hole.

I got some in from Germany that replace the 240. New manufacture and no hole also.

So if you get the Bosios with no pilot hole, all you get is a little more clatter and better mileage? I'm wondering because that was the only problem I had with them, that I'd heard they were lacking in the pilot hole that the originals had.

So which version lacks the pilot hole - the DNOSD240 or the DNOS240/ ?

The updated ones don't (260, 261 up to 265-newest) don't have the hole.

The books here in the states don't list newer ones as applying to the older engines. If you have not yet looked....

And the official answer is...

DNOSD240 - has a .15mm center hole in the nozzle pintle
DNOSD240/ - has a .20mm center hole in the nozzle pintle

The 240/ is a later design, starting in November of 1981. The design change to the larger center hole was presumably to quiet down the diesel knock a bit. Having said that, a set of brand new 240's is quieter than a set of 240/ with 200K on them.
