I was disconcerted to find my 300TD behaving a bit sluggishly in NYC yesterday. At first I wrote it off to the incredible heat, full blast AC, and the punishing chore of moving. After multiple trips to storage with a full load and lots of idling in traffic, I figured it just need to get out on the open road for an Italian Tune Up.
When it didn't perk up after a 70mi trip to Danbury and back I got concerned and decided to check on the banjo fitting and thin pressure tube between there and the cross-over switch. This is the path to tell the ALDA that you've got lots of air pressure in the manifold.
Guess what? It was caked with black powdery soot. I was suprise because I had thoroughly cleaned it less than a year ago. Well cleaning that again put everything right.
If you have a turbo charged diesel this is the most cost effective performance enhancing measure you can take.
