Post Seatbelt panel on the loose

Moving around, looking into the vacuum hoses, I took the driver side panel that goes over the seatbelt. You know, the one right by your left ear when driving. I can't seem to find a way to attach it back on.

Anyone every done this before?

There is a hook on the backside that hooks into a slit, but for some reason it doesn't want to go it there. I'm close to getting the duct tape out.

All right, that's a W123, same as mine. They clip just sort of guides the panel in to place and holds in inward, but not upward. They really won't stay in place until you install the plastic trim piece that sits under it with the two screws.

On one side of my car, the clip was a little bent, and it wouldn't pull the top of the trim tight against the door pillar. I bent the clip a little with my fingers, and that problem was solved. On the other side, the clip was pushed too far in, and wouldn't engage the slot on the pillar, so it wouldn't stay in place at all. I had to pull that one out a little bit.

The clips are metal, and they bend easily enough. Just be careful, and don't bend them too much at once.

I don't seem to see any thing with two screws. I'll have to get some photos on here.

Not the greatest pic, but the piece directly below my hand has two phillips screws that attach to the base of the pillar. The part I'm holding fits into the molded plastic piece at the bottom. I'm holding the pillar cover away from the base of the pillar - to remove, pull away at bottom then down. To install, hold away at the bottom, tight at the top and slide up - then push in at the bottom and attach the two screws.

If you're missing the molded plastic piece at the bottom, i don't think you can attach the cover.

There's another pic at this thread:

You need to remove that plastic retainer at the base of the pillar/shoulder-belt cover - the one held on with two philips screws. Then you can drop the pillar cover enough to allow it's metal tab to re-engage the slot in the upper part of pillar. The pillar cover slides together at the top with an up & in motion. Then the plastic base screws on to secure the cover's base. As the previous poster mentioned, you may need to re-bend the cover's metal tab slightly so the upper end of the cover will grip the pillar tighter.

Happy Motoring, Mark
