12 point starter bolt bit

Could someone please tell me where I can find one of these here in Canada? Also if you had a part number that would be great too.

Plus, as an added bonus, if there's something specific that you have replaced them with after you managed to get them out, that would be great.

Please don't suggest Harbour Freight, as I'd prefer to go pick one up instead of waiting two weeks for a shipment from the US to clear Customs.

Thanks.

This is odd. I have looked at atleast 6 mbs and all had normal allen heads. You are looking for a 3 squared bit. Sames as whats used on the heads. Any decent shop should have them.

Yup.

Hey dunl, either flag down the Snap-On truck or go by your local mechanic and see when he stops buy. All the Snap-on guys I know are cool and love to sell to hobbyists -- but beware, stepping onto his truck might make you broke!!

Oh, the Sears store here sells em, too. Fine assortment of mechanics tools they have.

Two weeks ago someone else posted about this claiming they had a "cly" head" bolt holding their starter.

You're going to want to measure your's to ensure you get the right size..... They are also called "triple squares" on some parts sites (I guess 6 point stars are double triangles.....)

Thanks guys, I'll check Sears. If that doesn't work, I have a student whose dad works for Snap-On.

As for weird, I have a w116 - maybe that's why?

Nope, Sears doesn't carry things like that up here like they do for you guys down south.

Only in specialty stores, I was told (by a very reputable guy). Guess I'm off to Snap-On.
Does anyone have a part number for Snap-On?

Here it Toronto I found some at Part Source and NAPA, if NAPA doesn't have it they should be able to order it for you.

Thanks. Unfortunately, Sears "Canada" is a completely different outfit compared to down South.....you lucky buggers.

So is what I am looking for actually a 12point 10mm Allen, like suggested? I've seen several ideas of what it might actually be, but want to be sure. I want to be sure, because I managed t get my T-55 Torx in there fitting snuggly, but when I put pressure on it I realized that couldn't be the right one.

Never mind, I just looked at the link - how about suggestions on replacing these bolts?

Thanks....I have enough tools that I don't need right now, without buying new useless ones.

Don't forget to try Autozone... they have a three piece set for about 10.00 on their tool isle of three different sizes of "tripple square" sockets.

Did you try Princess Auto? That's where I always get my single-purpose weird metric tools. I think there's one on the west side of Red Deer on the S.E. corner of Hwy 11 and Hwy 2. You can download the catalog at http://downloads.princessauto.com/ and see if they have what you're looking for.

And yes, there is one there....one of my favorite places on the planet.

Where in the province are you?
