Cost of Fuel in Mexico

I lifted the prices below off a post on Craigs List.

Years ago we used to go to Tijuana and fill our cars
with much less expensive gasoline.
I began wondering if the same was true today.
And from the following I believe it is.

I would love to have $2 diesel.

Fuel prices for October 2007...

Gasoline prices for the current month:

Magna.............$ 6.71 pesos per liter
Premium..........$ 8.27 pesos per liter
Diesel..............$ 5.67 pesos per liter

These prices are in liters, since 1 gallon = 3.7854 liters.

Today (October 1st) 1 dollar = $ 10.80 pesos (+/-)

Using the previous information, this is what we have....

Magna.............$ 2.351 dollars per gallon
Premium..........$ 2.898 dollars per gallon
Diesel..............$ 1.987 dollars per gallon

Remember that in the Gas Stations within 20km along the border with the US, fuel prices are gradually matched with those of the States.

Shouldn't NAFTA allow me to go there and buy as much as I want and bring it back ?

That's not THAT much cheaper than here. I would have thought it would have been a lot less. Then again, the US dollar ain't worth what it used to be worth!

Maybe....you'd probably get the priviledge of of paying Fed and States surcharges too. I think spot prices on RUG are somewhere around $2.25 p/gal now so may end up costing more?

I can remember paying the equivelant of 12 cents per gallon for diesel in Mexico. (Early 70's) Quality of the fuel was definitely crap, though.

Ruben - The Spot Price for D2 this week was ~$2.50 in LA; the "extra" $0.75 you and I pay is for Fed and State Excise taxes.

Gas & diesel fuel in Mexico, Russia, Venezuela, or any other country where the government controls the price is cheaper than in the USA - goverment controls big business. Here, big business controls government. Do you really think George Bush has the brains to run his war-for-profit alone?
