Overheated 300SDL?
Is it possible to drive a 300SDL after it has been overheated, and still be able to drive it without replacing the head?
Before I even had my license and was preparing this car for regular driving, I decided to get the trap ox removed for free by MB. I was following behind my dad with a friend when suddenly he pulled over to the side of the interstate and said the car was shifting funny. He decided to proceed a few minutes later and suddenly the radiator blew old antifreeze everywhere. It looked like a carbon explosion with the hood down. At this point I was hopeless. After having the car towed home after MB said it didn't pass inspection for the trap ox removal and restoration, it sat for a couple months. After replacing the radiator and transmission fluid, the car seemed to drive okay. My mercedes tech. has been playing hell trying to figure out why this car doesn't performe the way it should. So my question is, is it possible to drive with a blown head or headgasket? Any and ALL help, replys, and or comments are greatly appreciated!!! Thank YOU! |

Generally, the symptoms are mild.........water in the oil........oil in the water.........pressure in the cooling system..........water in the combustion chambers...........combustion pressure in the crankcase (with massive blowby)......... The performance of the vehicle is usually not affected by this issue, unless it's driven under such conditions for an extended period of time and some excessive wear and/or corrosion begins to occur to to accumulated water (if it's a water leak). |
