'95 E300D ... Mobil1 10W-40 High Mileage?

I have 225,000 miles on my tank and have used mostly M1 15W-50 with the occassional usage of Rotella 15W-40 when finances werent as good. I purchased the car with about 40K on it about 10 years ago so I am not sure about what was used prior. With this many miles I am interested in putting Mobil1 10W-40 High Mileage in her from this point forward. Please comment on this specific product in this application... thanks!

Is that even a diesel approved oil? I don't think it is. Usually the diesel oils are 0w40....5w40....15w40....15w50 I'd make sure of that first.

A better oil to use would probably be "Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w40" You could run it about 7,500 miles in your E300 606 diesel no problem.

You don't want to use one of those scammy "for high mileage engines" oils. They have un-needed additives in them...I do not recommend using them.

Agreed. A diesel-rated oil should be the number one priority.

paw.. thx for your reply. It is diesel approved and according to the M1 web site simply has more of the same additives that are in their regular synthetic for seal lubrication anti deposit formation etc etc.

"meets the requirements for diesel powered vehicles where API CF or API CD is recommended" per the M1 web site.

It's diesel rated, so it's fine for use. But do you want those other seal swelling additives in your system?

Yeah, I'd say its better to use one without the additives....especially if the car is not leaking anything as it is.

Mobil 1 0W-40 is what you should use. You can run that up to 15,000 miles without problems.

I don't know if 15,000 would be such a good idea in a diesel. Might be too much soot. You'd have to do oil analysis along the way to make sure.

Yes, but it all depends on the soot levels in the oil. Most synthetic oils can be run a long time....but they get too much soot in them over time.

Why don't you just keep using the M1 15w50? Same price and great oil...

.... because of the odometer.. 225K.. lot o' miles. I also have never been entirely comfortable with 15W... on the coldest days here in NC I always felt it was a bit thick.

Pending personal driving style, the FSS in my 99 will allow up to 1 year or 16k miles max interval between oil changes. The 606 does not create as much soot as the older engines. FSS monitors engine temp and trip length to determine oil life. Unless you do lots of freeway driving with little or no city your interval will be more like 8-12K.

I like the 0W/40 or 5W/40 M1 Truck and Turbo Diesel product.

Keep using what your using why change? 225k isn't a lot of miles for a 606.

If you want an oil that turns over better use a 5w40, either from Rotella, Mobil, or Amsoil.

You can get Rotella and Mobil pretty cheap at Walmart, they sell Delvac 1 as "Truck & SUV" oil.

IMHO 5w40 is all you need for any MB diesel on the continental US. Doesn't matter if its -20 or 110 out your covered.
